Overview

The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity, in partnership with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is pleased to host the 2026 Energy Storage Regulatory Summit. 

This invitation-only summit will bring together representatives from state public utility commissions and state energy offices to discuss emerging issues related to energy storage deployment, regulation, and planning. The event will provide opportunities to learn about DOE-supported research and technical assistance, exchange perspectives with peers from across the country, and help inform future DOE activities that support state energy decision-makers.

  • Share experience, priorities, and emerging challenges from across the country. 
  • Tour PNNL’s Grid Storage Launchpad and other laboratory facilities.

  • Participate in regional discussions and interactive brainstorming sessions. 
  • Help inform future DOE research and assistance efforts that support state decision-makers.

Storage as Transmission Summit 

Participants in the Energy Storage Regulatory Summit are also invited to attend the Energy Storage as Transmission Forum on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. This forum will bring together utilities, developers, grid operators, regulators, and other stakeholders to discuss policy, regulatory, and implementation considerations for energy storage as transmission assets.
